To promote the sustainability of local Online Physical Education Network (OPEN) Curriculum implementations, the OPEN National Training Group has designed a Community Curriculum Coach (CCC) Development Program in an effort to prepare physical educators for peer-centered cooperative professional development.
This model allows districts to conduct FREE professional development programs that are well organized, focused on local requirements, and relevant to teacher and student needs.
This program will launch in the Spring of 2016 at the California AHPERD Conference (March 10-12), and at the SHAPE America National Convention (April 5-9). During these professional conferences the OPEN National Training Group will conduct free half-day preconference workshops to prepare and certify OPEN Community Curriculum Coaches to return to their local districts and conduct ongoing peer-centered OPEN Professional Development.
This train-the-trainer program will focus on the following educational themes:
- Understanding backward design and outcomes-based curriculum development and implementation
- Implementing academic rigor strategies in the physical education classroom
- Using academic language tools to meet student learning objectives
Teachers certified as OPEN Curriculum Coaches will return to their home districts with the knowledge and tools needed to provide the following professional development experiences:
- 1- to 3-hour activity-based workshops
- Curriculum collaboration and alignment meetings
- Grant writing and resource development workshops
Aligning with OPEN’s core value statement of “Every Teacher, Every Child,” US Games is providing all OPEN CCC opportunities free of charge to teachers attending national, regional, and state conferences. In addition, the SUNY Cortland Activity and Movement Pedagogy (AMP) Lab will host an annual program each summer which will be available and free to the first 30 registrants.
OPEN is a public service of US Games. Registration for OPEN Community Curriculum Coach Development Programs is free. However, participants will be responsible for the cost of registration for the host conference in addition to all travel and lodging expenses incurred.
Registration is free for the summer program hosted at SUNY Cortland’s AMP Lab. Participants will be responsible for all travel and lodging expenses.
