To celebrate Heart Month during the month of February, we have compiled K-5 resources for educators to utilize both in the classroom and during physical education class. Our hope is that all educators within a school building are working together to help students develop knowledge and skills that will lead to the development of healthy habits. This module includes activities that are designed to help students develop the knowledge and skills to be healthy and active for a lifetime.
We have included resources and activities for both physical educators and classroom teachers, organized through the activity calendars included below. We have included resource calendars for grades K-2 and 3-5 that can help guide teachers through the month of February. We hope that the highlight of your February instructional calendar is your Kids Heart Challenge event! We have included many jump rope, hula hoop, basketball, and nutrition activities in the calendars to assist with teachers prepping their students for an event.
Studies have shown that healthy students get better grades, attend school more, and often behave better in class. The 4 Pillars of health we have focused on (Nutrition, Physical Activity, Sleep, and Stress Management/Relaxation) are addressed through a variety of engaging and activity-based lessons. This allows teachers the opportunity to address the physical and emotional well-being of students by developing and reinforcing healthy and responsible behaviors.
